Frequently Asked Questions
What does a driver assessment with DriveSmart Solutions involve?
Our driver assessments are carried out entirely on the road, in your vehicle, on your routes — so the evaluation is as real and relevant as it gets. One of our experienced assessors will ride along with your driver and observe their performance across a range of key areas including speed management, hazard awareness, vehicle control, observation and road positioning. At the end of the assessment, you’ll receive clear, honest feedback on how the driver performed and any areas that need attention. There’s no classroom, no theory test and no disruption to your working day — just a straightforward, professional evaluation that gives you a true picture of how safely your fleet is being driven.
Do you assess new drivers joining our business?
Absolutely — in fact a new driver induction assessment is one of the most important things you can do to protect your business. Taking on a new driver based on their CV and licence alone doesn’t tell you how they actually behave behind the wheel. Our new driver induction assessment evaluates every new starter before they go out on the road on your behalf, identifying any risks, bad habits or areas for development early on. It also demonstrates to your insurer and to any regulatory body that you take your duty of care seriously — which can make a real difference if an incident ever occurs down the line.
What is collision aftercare and when would I need it?
Collision aftercare is the support and process that follows when one of your drivers has been involved in a road incident. At DriveSmart Solutions, our aftercare service covers a professional post-incident assessment of the driver involved, helping to identify what went wrong, whether additional training is required and what steps need to be taken to prevent it happening again. We also help you manage the process calmly and professionally — reducing disruption to your operation and ensuring your business responds in the right way. Whether the incident was minor or more serious, having a structured aftercare process in place protects your drivers, your reputation and your bottom line.
How often should our drivers be assessed?
There’s no single rule that applies to every business, but as a general guide we recommend that all drivers are assessed at least once every year as a minimum — and more frequently for drivers who cover high mileage, operate in high-risk environments or have been involved in a previous incident. New drivers should always be assessed before they begin driving on your behalf. Regular assessments not only keep standards high across your fleet but also demonstrate an ongoing commitment to driver safety, which is increasingly important from both an insurance and a legal duty of care perspective. We’re happy to work with you to build an assessment schedule that fits your fleet and your budget.
